What NOT to Get Two of for Twins: Twin Baby Gear
There are some products you will need double of, such as cribs, car seats, swaddle sacks, and a great double stroller. And there are lots of products you simply don’t need at all. But there’s also a big list of products that you need, but DON’T need two of. That’s why we’ve though through not just what to double, but what not to get two of for twins. After all, we urban moms don’t have unlimited space to store all this gear, nor do we want to spend on items we don’t need to.
If you want to go deeper, check out the Ultimate Minimalist Mom’s Twin Registry Checklist of what you need, what you don’t, and what to double up on. Download the free printable checklist here.
Also be sure to check out the class on How to Thrive with Twins. In it, I go through a huge gear section, plus sections on twin sleep, twin feeding, getting through the early days with twins, coping strategies, twin activities, and tons of more twin tips. What Not to Get Two of for Twins
1. Baby Swings
First on the list of what not to get two of for twins, is baby swings. This is one case where having two of the same product is not the best use of space or money. For one, your babies may be like previous babies and not love the swing. Secondly, you’ll quickly realize that babies get bored. Easily. That’s why having different activities available for rotation are helpful. Consider having a swing and a bouncer available to have multiple activities available.
.
2. Baby Carriers
Are you going to wear both carriers at once? How many times do you think you’ll be out with another adult to carry baby, where a stroller doesn’t work? You can think about getting a baby carrier if you really want, in order to carry one baby and have your hands free for the other. But I’d recommend waiting until the babies arrive to see if it’s something you’d actually use. Better yet, try to borrow one from a mom friend to see how often it actually gets used.
.
3. Play Mat
This goes back to the multiple activity stations for babies. Purchasing just one of these works for ensuring there are lots of different play areas. Additionally, when babies are newborns, both of them can fit under a regular play mat like this one, meaning there’s no need to purchase two.
.
4. Exersaucer
Everything that goes for the play mat goes for this one, except for more. This is one of the biggest, bulkiest baby products you can fit in your living room. It is, however, one of the best products to keep babies occupied. Having two would just take up too much room, so stick with just one exersaucer, like this one, and instead stock up on other toys.
